Our weekly runs

Group of people in colorful athletic clothing exercising outdoors in a parking lot during early morning or late afternoon.
A group of people jogging on a dirt trail through a green wheat field under a cloudy sky.
Group of people walking on a sidewalk in the evening, wearing yellow high-visibility vests, with a residential neighborhood and trees in the background.

These are our regular weekly runs. We always meet at Ethel Ward Car Park. Make sure to check the ClubSign and Runner app for any last-minute cancellations, the weather gods don't always play ball, and we'd rather you know before you've laced up and headed over.

We're an inclusive bunch, and every session is designed with that in mind. Whether you're just getting started or you've got a few marathons under your belt, there'll always be something for you — no one gets left behind.

Sunday runs

A group of people, including a man taking a selfie, gathered outdoors in front of houses, with some people holding leashes with dogs, in a grassy area on a cloudy day.
A group of people dressed in outdoor gear and reflective vests gathering on a muddy trail in a foggy forest.
A group of nine runners posing outdoors on a bridge with greenery, hills, and a small building in the background.

A couple of times a month we mix things up with a Sunday session. We alternate between a local 10k road route and a trail run, giving you a bit of variety to keep things interesting. As always, we meet at Ethel Ward Car Park.

Just like all of our runs, these sessions are fully inclusive — whether tarmac or trails is more your thing, there'll be something for you and nobody gets left behind.

Make sure to check the Facebook group and the ClubSign / Runner app for exact dates of upcoming Sunday sessions — more on both apps below.

Booking on a run

For members we have a ClubSign app that allows members to check out the runs we have coming up and they can register so we know who to expect and Run Leaders can plan for the session and it's easy to get yourself signed up for multiple runs in advance. You can book on or cancel at any time through the app or website, — which is handy for those darker mornings and evenings when a bit of accountability goes a long way. Once you become a Haxby Runner you will receive your log in details.

We also use the "Runner" app by England Athletics for anyone who is not yet a member but wants to test us out, so we always know who's joining us on a run. More info here.

If life gets in the way and you need to cancel, please do so through the app rather than by email, as our inbox is monitored by volunteers and messages can occasionally be missed. We'll never question a cancellation — we just ask that you let us know so our Run Leaders can plan accordingly.

The app also stores your emergency contact details and any health information our leaders may need to be aware of. All of this is completely confidential and will only be accessed by a Run Leader in an emergency, so it's worth keeping it up to date.

The York & District Road Race League is a league formed by running clubs, including Haxby Runners, in York and its surrounding areas.

The league runs from May to July in each year and consists of six 10K road races and one reverse handicap at locations throughout the area.

Entry is open to full first claim members of the club.

Saturday mornings are a big deal for a lot of our members. Many of us head out to local, national and sometimes even international parkrun events as part of the weekly routine. Regularly we'll all descend on the same event together — whether that's to cheer each other on, pace one another, or take over as volunteers. We did exactly that at Millfield last year, which was a brilliant morning.

Keep an eye on the members section or the Facebook group for any upcoming parkrun meetups — it's always more fun when there's a familiar face at the finish line. And if you happen to turn up to any of the York parkruns on a Saturday morning, chances are you'll spot a Haxby Runner somewhere in the crowd.
